Hello!

I'm Meg Parivar, HR fellow and PhD design research student at Lancaster University. This platform is one of the outcomes of my project Primark, Manchester.

As part of my project I looked at Reatil Crime and how we can prevent it within our store by following some simple steps and I'd like to share it with you.

  • What is Retail Crime?

  • Have you ever experienced a customer distracted you and stole some unpurchased goods in different ways?

Perhaps you blamed yourself for that and thought you could prevent it simply, but don't worry! I am here to talk about it with you, about crime prevention and make it happen in our store together effectively.

It is good to know that Retail Crime is one of the most commonly committed crimes in the UK, the direct crime cost to the UK retail industry was £603 million in 2013-14, and it was 18% higher in the last 12 months, according to the BRC’s new research, published in January 2015.

Retailing strategy in the UK is to satisfy customer needs, which is happening through promoting sales by attractive store design and layout, so retailers have to put themselves in this position to fascinate customers, therefore this favourite entertainment activity can be converted into a major opportunity for criminals.

We provide a comfort zone to our customers at Primark which is great and we are proud of it, however this comfort creates a fantastic target and environment for shoplifters’ activities.

What we need to do?

Retail Crime has different aspects, and I am trying to show you how to confront and deal with them, so you can either have tour around the website or send me a message and show your interest for attending to one of the fun workshops which takes place in the HR training room. I am always here to answer your questions.

Remember!

We don't want to act like a ditective on the shopfloor or be pessimist about our customers, but we need to be aware of what is happening around us in the store and how we can deal with the situations in a professional manner.
